My Little Oasis Started with Missing the Ocean
There’s something magical about stepping into a place that instantly makes you exhale.
Maybe it's a hidden garden filled with blooming flowers.
A quiet beach where the waves wash away the noise of everyday life.
A cozy patio wrapped in greenery.
Or a favorite chair by the window where the morning sun pours in with your first cup of coffee.
We often think peace lives somewhere else.
On vacation.
By the ocean.
On a tropical island we've been dreaming about for years.
But what if your little oasis didn't have to be somewhere far away?
What if you could create that feeling right where you are?
For me, that question became deeply personal when I moved from California to Texas.
Growing up, I was only about forty minutes from Santa Cruz. If I wanted to spend a day by the ocean, it was always within reach. After moving to Texas, I suddenly found myself nearly four hours from the closest beach in Port Aransas. which made it so I hardly went and didn't even try for the first 5 years here.
For someone whose heart has always been drawn to the coast, that wasn't an easy adjustment.
I missed the sound of the waves.
The salty air.
The feeling of being close to the ocean whenever I needed it.
For a while, I thought I had left that part of myself behind.
But over time, I realized something.
While I couldn't bring the ocean to Texas, I could bring the feeling it gave me into my everyday life.
When we bought our home, there was one thing I knew I wanted more than anything else.
A patio where I could sit each morning with a cup of coffee, watch the sunrise, and surround myself with beautiful tropical flowers.
Today, that's exactly where you'll find me most mornings.
As the sun begins to rise, the birds start singing, and my hibiscus and plumerias catch the first light of the day. Everything feels a little quieter. A little slower.
It's become my favorite place in our home.

I look forward to every season when new flowers begin to bloom. Each one feels like a tiny reminder that beauty has a way of showing up when we least expect it.
Even during the winter months, many of those tropical plants come indoors with me. Seeing their greenery throughout the colder seasons reminds me that joy doesn't have to disappear just because the weather changes.
I've learned that life doesn't always look exactly the way we imagined it would.
Sometimes the places we love are far away.
But we can still create spaces that remind us of them.
Sometimes that's all it takes to make a house feel a little more like home.
At Charlotte's Cove, that's a lesson that has shaped so much of my life.
Because while I find endless inspiration in tropical places, I've realized the feeling I'm chasing was never just about a destination.
It's about slowing down.
Noticing beauty.
Creating moments that help us reconnect with ourselves.
That's what creating your own oasis means to me.
And the beautiful thing is, it can look different for everyone.
Start with Nature
Nature has a quiet way of reminding us to slow down.
It doesn't rush.
It doesn't compete.
It simply grows.
One blooming hibiscus.
A new leaf unfurling on your favorite houseplant.
Fresh herbs on the patio.
Even a small bouquet of flowers sitting on the kitchen counter can completely change the feeling of a room.
Your oasis doesn't have to be large.
It doesn't need to look like something from a magazine.
It simply needs to be a place that brings you peace.
For me, that's tropical flowers.
Watching a hibiscus bloom never gets old. Every new flower feels like a tiny celebration, and I still find myself stopping to admire each one as if it's the first I've ever seen.

These sunset HIbiscus will always be my favorite. it never gets old watching them open and change. they are bigger than my hand and open bright pink in the morning and at sunset are this stunning yellow. I've never seen such a thing before.

Yes, they are the same flower.
Nature has a way of reminding us that growth happens in its own time.
Maybe that's why we find so much comfort in gardens.
They remind us that beautiful things aren't rushed.
Create a Morning You Look Forward To
One of the simplest ways I've found to bring a little more peace into my life is by protecting the first few moments of my day.
It's easy to reach for my phone the moment I wake up.
To immediately jump into emails, notifications, and everything waiting on my to-do list.
But I've learned that how I begin my morning often shapes how the rest of my day feels.
Instead, I try to start outside whenever I can.
Coffee in hand.
The sunrise painting the sky.
Birds singing in the distance.
Flowers slowly waking up alongside me.
It's become a ritual I genuinely look forward to.
Not because it's elaborate.
But because it reminds me to slow down before the world asks me to speed up.
Your morning doesn't have to look like mine.
Maybe it's reading a few pages of a book.
Lighting your favorite candle.
Watering your plants.
Taking a quiet walk before everyone else is awake.
The goal isn't perfection.
It's creating a few moments that belong only to you.
Fill Your Home with Things That Tell Your Story

The most beautiful homes aren't always the most expensive.
They're the ones that feel collected.
A shell picked up during a family vacation.
A favorite coffee mug you've reached for every morning for years.
Books that have inspired you.
A framed photograph from somewhere that changed you.
Fresh flowers sitting on the kitchen table.
These little pieces become more than decorations.
They become reminders.
Of places you've loved.
People you've shared them with.
Dreams you're still holding onto.
One of my favorite things about decorating our home has been surrounding myself with things that make me feel something.
Little coastal touches.
Natural textures.
Treasures collected over time instead of all at once.
When I look around our home, I don't just see décor.
I see memories.
And I think that's what makes a home truly beautiful.
Bring the Outdoors In

One of my favorite ways to create that peaceful feeling year-round is by bringing nature inside.
Especially during the winter.
When the temperatures begin to drop, many of my tropical plants move indoors.
Some people probably think it's a lot of work.
To me, it's worth every bit of it.
There's something about seeing vibrant green leaves and tropical blooms on a cold winter day that instantly lifts my mood.
It's a reminder that beauty doesn't disappear with the seasons.
Sometimes it simply changes where it grows.
Whether it's a fiddle leaf fig in the corner of your living room, fresh flowers on your dining table, or a small collection of plants by a sunny window, greenery has a way of making a space feel alive.
And sometimes that's exactly what we need.
Choose Beauty on Ordinary Days
For a long time, I saved beautiful things for "special occasions."
The pretty candle.
The favorite mug.
The dress hanging in the closet.
The jewelry that felt too special for an ordinary Tuesday.
But somewhere along the way, I realized something.
Life isn't made up of special occasions.
It's made up of ordinary days.
And those ordinary days deserve beauty too.
Now I light the candle.
I wear the necklace.
I pull out the beautiful dishes even if it's just breakfast.
Because those little choices remind me that today is worth celebrating.
Not because anything extraordinary happened.
But simply because today is a gift.
Let Your Surroundings Reflect Who You Are
One of the most freeing things I've learned is that your oasis shouldn't look like anyone else's.
Social media can make it feel like there's a "right" way to decorate, travel, garden, or even relax.
But creating a space that brings you peace isn't about following trends.
It's about paying attention to what makes you feel most like yourself.
For me, that's tropical flowers.
Ocean-inspired colors.
The sound of Hawaiian music drifting through the house while I cook dinner.
Fresh flowers on the counter.
A collection of shells from places that hold special memories.
Those things may seem small.
But together, they've helped me create a home that feels peaceful, joyful, and deeply personal.
Your version might look completely different.
And that's exactly how it should be.
Because the most meaningful spaces aren't designed to impress other people.
They're designed to welcome you home.
Slow Down Enough to Notice
Perhaps the most important part of creating your own oasis has nothing to do with where you live.
Or what your home looks like.
It's learning to notice.
The way the morning light pours through the windows.
The sound of birds greeting a new day.
A flower that wasn't blooming yesterday.
The smell of fresh rain.
A rainbow stretching across the sky after a storm.
The warmth of your coffee between your hands.
These moments are easy to miss when life feels busy.
But I've found they're often the moments that stay with us the longest.
Creating an oasis isn't about escaping your life.
It's about becoming more present in it.
The more I've slowed down, the more I've realized that beauty has always been there.
Sometimes I just needed to pause long enough to see it.
Paradise Isn't Always a Place

When I was younger, I thought paradise was somewhere I would eventually arrive.
A tropical island.
A beautiful beach.
A destination waiting somewhere in the future.
And while I still light up every time I visit the coast, moving to Texas taught me something I never expected.
The feeling I loved most about the ocean was never just the ocean itself.
It was the peace.
The stillness.
The sense of wonder.
The invitation to slow down.
Those are things I can create wherever I am.
Not perfectly.
Not every day.
But intentionally.
I've learned that my little oasis isn't defined by my ZIP code.
It's found in quiet mornings on the patio.
Watching a hibiscus bloom.
Bringing my tropical plants inside during winter.
Listening to birdsong with a warm cup of coffee in my hands.
Finding beauty in the ordinary.
Those small moments have reminded me that even when life doesn't look exactly the way I imagined, it can still be incredibly beautiful.
Maybe your oasis looks different than mine.
Maybe it's a cozy reading nook.
A garden you've lovingly cared for.
Weekend walks through your neighborhood.
A porch swing.
Fresh flowers on your kitchen table.
Or simply a few quiet moments before the rest of the world wakes up.
Whatever it looks like, I hope you give yourself permission to create it.
Because we all deserve a place that helps us breathe a little deeper.
A place that reminds us to slow down.
A place that feels like home.
A Gentle Note from Charlotte's Cove
Charlotte's Cove was born from this same belief.
That beauty isn't something we save for vacations or special occasions.
It's something we can weave into our everyday lives.
Every collection is inspired by the places that have shaped me—coastal mornings, tropical flowers, hidden beaches, and the quiet joy of discovering beauty in unexpected places.
If you've read The Story Behind The Hibiscus Club, you know that so much of the collection was inspired by this idea of blooming in your own time and embracing the things that make you uniquely you.
To me, Charlotte's Cove has never been just about jewelry.
It's about carrying a little reminder of the life you want to create.
One that's slower.
More intentional.
Filled with beauty.
Wonder.
And gratitude for the little moments that often matter the most.
